Area and Maps

The Buffelspoort Valley offers unique environmental beauty, including the Buffelspoort Dam, and its close proximity to the major urban areas of Gauteng, makes the area very attractive from a tourism, leisure and residential perspective.

Our Valley stretches from the area between Kroondal in the West, to Green Valley in the east, and from Marikana in the North, to Manhaarrand. The Buffelspoort Valley offers unique environmental beauty, including the Buffelspoort Dam, and its close proximity to the major urban areas of Gauteng, makes the area very attractive from a tourism, leisure and residential perspective.

So much so that since 1970 there have been efforts to protect the area from unwanted exploitation and erosion by the formation of a formal "Protected Environment". In 2006 a proposal was made to proclaim the area a Biosphere by the UNESCO's "Man and Biosphere Program". During 2010, a consultant of "Contour Project Managers' was appointed to join the process and to prepare and manage this program. This is well underway and meetings are held for public participation.
